MY AMERICAN YEAR HOMESTAY PROGRAM

My American Year,a division of Globalise, is a leading non-profit organization offering assistance to F-1 students from around the world with admission to a private or public high school, homestay placement with a local American host family near your school, guardianship, counseling support, and insurance coverage.
The My American YearHomestay Program offers a safe and beneficial homestay experience that can help you dramatically improve your communication skills through daily conversations and involvement in the American lifestyle and community.
 
My American Year Coordinators have been placing students in qualified homestays for over 25 years.  My American Year serves as the liaison between the students, school, host families, and overseas agencies.Through our homestay services, combined with 24-hour counseling support, we are proud that we are “Connecting our World, Connecting our Memories.”
 
The My American Year Homestay Programconsists of 3 types of homestay options that enable qualified international high school students to attend high school in the United States while living with a host family.
 
  1. 5-month (semester) homestay
  2. 10-month (full academic year) homestay
  3. Short-term homestay lasting 2 weeks to 12 weeks (for immersion program students)
 
Our Mission:
 
     It is our mission to provide a comprehensive service to our students by upholding the highest standards and quality of homestay. 
      
  • My American Year conducts home inspections of the potential host family’s home, orient host families, and monitor the students’ and host families’ progress on a regular basis.My American Year also requires that all adult members of a prospective host family undergo a Criminal Background Check.
  • Each student accepted by My American Year is assigned a local coordinator. 
  • The My American Year head office provides24-hour counseling support.
  • No more than one student of the same nationality will be placed in the same home.
  • My American Year’s Homestay Program includes guardianship and insurance.
 
My American Year Homestay Comprehensive Service Package:
 
The My American Yearcomprehensive service package includes the following services below.  The My American Year fee does not include monthly stipends remitted to the host family.  For pricing details, please contact My American Year via email at: info@myamericanyear.org or by phone at 619-203-2639.
 
  • School Selection:My American Year works with a large network of private and public high schools.  Students are required to complete a My American Year F-1 High School Program Pre-Application in order for My American Yearto provide a student with a list of school options.
  • Admission Process:My American Year will assist the student with handling the entire admissions process to the school(s) the student selects.
  • Homestay Accommodations:My American Year conducts home inspections of the potential host family’s home, including performing criminal background checks of any persons 18 years of age or older in the household.  *Cost for host family stipend is additional and is not included in the comprehensive service package.
  • Counseling Support:The My American Year head office provides24-hour counseling support and Coordinators monitor the students’ and host families’ progress on a regular basis.
  • Guardianship:  My American Year will serve as guardian for the student.
  • Insurance:  My American Year provides insurance (required by all schools) for 10 months.
 
Additional services (additional costs):
  • Tutoring: For students who need additional help learning English, My American Year can arrange tutoring services.
  • University Preparation Services including, but not limited to, assistance with University selection, applications, essays, and housing (if needed).
